- East coast grinder, WPT Champion and Monster Headphones spokesman WIll “The Thrill” Failla is officially off the market. It’s hard to imagine, but one of poker’s biggest personalities now has an even “better half” as a couple weeks ago Will and his new wife Sharon took the plunge and walked down the aisle.
Will 'The Thrill' Failla was allin preflop from middle position and action folded to Eli Berg in the big blind. He took a bit of time t.
American grinder Will ‘The Thrill’ Failla turned ten years’ worth of effort into $758,085 this week after claiming his first WPT in a long and sometimes frustrating career.
Despite clocking up just over $2 million in career earnings, Failla had never won a major championship prior to this week’s WPT Legends of Poker in Los Angeles.
The Thrill came into the $3,500 + $200 event off the back of some solid form at this year’s WSOP, cashing five times for a little over $100,000. And he saw off a stacked field, which included former Main Event winners Phil Hellmuth and J.C Tran, to bag the career best cash.
Failla came into the final table clutching the chip lead, and despite a few early wobbles, held on to see off Ken Aldridge heads-up. After busting Aldrige’s Aces with a rivered flush in the penultimate hand, Failla got his hands on the trophy when his J-6 held over Aldrige’s 4-6.
The next stop on the WPT calendar is the Grand Prix de Paris at the Aviation Club in Paris from September 4-12. Check back with PokerPlayer next week for all the action.
Here’s how the WPT Legends of Poker finished up:
1: Will Failla: $758,085
2: Ken Aldridge: $365,800
3: Jeff Vertes: $186,400
4: Joshua Pollock: $128,500
5: Adam Aronson: $102,800
6: Owais Ahmed: $77,100

Will ‘The Thrill’ Failla got off to a slow start in this Summer Poker Open Championship, falling slightly below the starting stack over the course of the first level and a half that he played. He’s now well above that starting stack, after scoring a knockout with pocket kings.
The action was picked up pre flop, with a player opening in early position before another player in middle position three-betting to 2,200. That player only had close to 12,000 left behind and next to act, Failla announced himself “all-in”, with an aggressive slam of his stack across the line.
The rest of the table folded before it got back to the three-bettor, who went into the tank. Midway through his decision process, Failla broke the tension and the silence, whispering, “You can always rebuy.” before the table broke into laughter.
The three-bettor said something about thinking Failla had tens before he called, only to see Failla table much better than tens, {Kd}{Kh}. The short stack held {Qh}{Jh} and needed to hit to stay alive.
He did hit, but Failla hit harder, turning a full house after his opponent had out flopped him, with Failla joking that he got “sucked out on, then had to re-suck” to score the knockout.
After the hand, the table all joked about how Failla’s rebuy comment may have persuaded the player to call, with Failla responding, “I could live to be a billion years old, I NEVER have tens in that spot, ever.”

Failla might be one of the more colorful and energetic players at any table, but when push comes to shove, he’s also one of the more solid players in any tournament field, so it wasn’t a surprise to see him show up with such a huge hand in a pretty meaningful early level SPO Championship pot.
